Your Questions, Answered

  • Ideally permanent makeup brows should last 3-4 years however this can vary depending on skin type, how well the brows are cared for and what skin treatments and products are used.

Things that will make the brows fade faster are extended sun exposure, frequent exfoliating and use of products such as retinols, acids, etc.

The final result can not be guaranteed as everyone’s skin is different.

  • If you are younger than 18 years old you are not able to have permanent makeup done.

If you are pregnant. Breastfeeding clients need to speak to their doctor before the appointment.

If you are taking prescription medication such as Accutane you must wait a minimim of 6 months to 1 year before getting permanent makeup done.

If you are prone to keloid scarring.

If you are allergic to tattoo pigments, lidocaine/tetracaine or epinephine.

If you are sun burnt or have been using retinols or acids on your skin you must wait two weeks before getting the treatment done.

If you have had any lasers, IPL, peels, etc you must wait 4-6 weeks before getting the treatment done.

If you have had botox or filler in the area you must wait 2 weeks before getting the treatment done.

  • At Upstairs Glamour we use top tier numbing creams before the procedure as well as during the procedure. Your comfort is our top priority!

When you initially come in we will chat about your expectations and what you are hoping your brows to look like.

We will then map them out and ensure you are satisfied with the shape, size and placement of the brows.

We will apply the numbing cream which will sit for 20-30 minutes. During this time we will determine a colour.

Once the brows are numbed we will proceed with the procedure which takes 30-90 minutes depending on the style of brow.

  • If you are using at retinols or acids you must stop using them and be sure it has been two weeks between stopping and the appointment date.

48 hours before the appointment please avoid Advil and alcohol.

The morning of the appointment you can take a Tylenol if you are nervous about the pain.

The morning of the appointment please refrain from consuming caffeine.

Feel free to bring in inspo photos of what you want your brows to look like as well as selfies of how you normally wear them.

  • Please come to the appointment with clean, moisturized skin. If you are moisturizing with Cerave or Neutrogena please DO NOT apply your moisturizer the morning of the appointment. These products do not mix well with the products I use. I will prep your skin with the products I have instead!

Please exfoliate with a physical exfoliant 24 hours before the appointment.

  • I have a large selection of lashes from super natural to super glam! That being said, if you have a pair of lashes you want to wear please feel free to bring them in.

  • Either or! Inspo photos are always super helpful and certainly help to narrow down a look however if you can’t seem to find anything you want, we always do an extensive consultation and after asking certain questions I can usually determine the best look for you!

  • This can happen and it’s totally OK! I do ask questions during the whole makeup application but there are just some things that you might be specific on that I don’t get perfect the first time. Just tell me what to change and we will get it done girlfriend!

  • I go wherever you need me to go! There is a travel cost associated with on location jobs and the price varies depending on whether it is in the city or outside of the city. See the price list for more details!

  • In studio makeup bookings can be done online via the booking link. For weddings or on location jobs, please email kaitlin@upstairsglamour.com and provide your first name, last name, date requested and how many makeup applications need to be done. Please include the getting ready location if possible.

  • First off, the price for bridal does include the trial beforheand as well. Every makeup application includes luxury lashes and high quality products are used. Bridal makeup does include specific luxury products used only for brides.

  • All makeup trials are done in studio at 9604 45ave unless decided otherwise. Trials are done 3-4 weeks before the date of the wedding.

  • The procedure involves 4 steps. First your lashes will be cleansed and a gel pad will be placed on the bottom lashes. Next, a silicone gel pad will be placed on the eyelid and the top lashes will be glued to the pad, holding them in place. This is step one. Once the hairs are in place, step 2 will be applied to the lashes. This step “lifts” the lashes and will range from 7-12 minutes depending on the coarseness of the natural lashes. After this, step three is applied which “sets” the lashes. This step is half the time of step two. Lastly, the black tint is applied to the lashes. Once the tint has completed a vitamin E gel is applied to the lashes and the silicone shield is removed.

    • Please refrain from wearing eye makeup including mascara to the appointment. If you cannot avoid wearing makeup, you will be provided a makeup wipe to use before the appointment.

    • Your eyes are closed for close to 45 minutes so please refrain from drinking lots of fluids prior as you cannot use the washroom during the appointment.

    • Please do not wear contact lenses to the appointment.

  • YES! They are safe for pregnancy or breastfeeding. Please keep in mind you will also be laying flat for upwards of 45 minutes so your comfort during the appointment may vary as you get farther along in pregnancy.

  • 12-24 hours before the appointment please shave and exfoliate your body. DO NOT apply any lotions or deodorants to the skin the day of the appointment. They can alter the pH of the skin which can potentially alter the colour of the tan.

  • At the start of the appointment, we will determine your undertone and discuss how dark you want the tan to be. Once we decide on the best shade, the tanning technician will leave the room so you can get undressed for the tan. There will be sticky feet that you will step on to, so the bottom of your feet doesn’t get tanned during the session. You will also be given a hair net to wear to protect your luscious locks. Once you are ready the tan will begin, and the technician will give you step by step instructions the whole entire time ensuring a flawless tan. Once the tan is complete you will be dried with the blowing air from the machine and a shimmering dust will be applied to certain areas of the body such as the crease of the armpits, elbows, chest, etc. You can opt out of this step if you like!

  • Whatever you are most comfortable with! Some people go naked to avoid tan lines or wear just underwear.

  • I recommend getting a spray tan 48 hours before an event. This will give you ample time to process the tan, wash off the bronzer and let the tan settle nicely into the skin before hitting the town.

  • YES! The tanning solution is pregnancy safe. If you are breastfeeding, you can bring nipple shields to wear during the tan or immediately wipe your breasts with a baby wipe after the tan to remove the solution from the area.

  • Spray tans typically last 7-10 days if taken care of properly.

  • Once you are ready to wash off the tanning solution, be sure to rinse with water only and use soap only in the important areas. I know this might seem weird, but it does help with the tan if you avoid soap on your whole body. After the shower it is recommended to air dry or pat dry with your towel. Do not swipe the towel across the skin as it does act as an exfoliator and may remove some of the tan. Be sure to stay as moisturized as possible! Hydrated skin will always keep the tan the best.

  • Because conditions like these do change the texture of the skin in certain areas, a spray tan may make them more noticeable as it doesn’t process over the dry areas properly. It shouldn’t make the condition worse though, so you are able to still get a tan, but we do recommend proceeding with caution.
